Top 5 of: Mollys Aus. Evolution

Very recently in Orstralya the airwaves have been awash with many a homage to The Guru, no not some indian mystic, but the greatest music fan in the world Ian "Molly" Meldrum,

they have had a tv miniseries , starring Samuel Johnson (formerly of cop tv show RUSH) as the great man himself ,

then there was the doco, just the other night in fact , where a vast array of Mollys musical compadres (and  millionaire trucking magnate) regaled the country with tales about Molly ( which Im sure he enjoyed thorougly) all this was preceeded by the autobiography and Julia Zamiro even hosted a tribute to Countdown earlier in the year....I wont babble on about the "Guru" you probably know the stories anyway....

here is his wiki page if you really want to learn stuff

Now to this blogaroo, Im going to post my 5 top tracks off a Molly themed double compilation album released in 1982 ,

which I had on both vinyl and also on double cassette ( so i could listen to it via my walkman on the train to work) that was titled "Molly Aus. Evolution" and when i say top 5.

Mr Meldrum had a vast amount to do with either producing or helping crack the charts with these tracks, mind you he helped just about everybody crack the charts ...so there you go and here we go

THE REAL THING - RUSSELL MORRIS

The single Molly produced that took an age and made Russell a legend

HORROR MOVIE - SKYHOOKS
the very first song on the very first Countdown

YESTERDAYS HERO - JOHN PAUL YOUNG
A Countdown regular and a good mate of the guru

DONT FALL IN LOVE - THE FERRETS
Yet another classic Meldrum production job

YOU WERENT IN LOVE WITH ME - BILLY FIELD
Countdown turned him into a teenage girl attracting superstar

HONORABLE MENTION:

DAY BY DAY - COLEEN HEWETT
Its not on the albums BUT it's a Molly production job and she popped him one in the mouth during it

SO there you go....hope you enjoy them

seeya next time
