THE ERA OF THE WOLF...Its Powerwolf

G'Day..been a while huh?
But you now what its like, you find a band you absolutly dig and you got to tell everybody , so to that point , its time to tell you about (although you probably already know all this stuff anyway) POWERWOLF

So there I was googling yoo toob the other day for some recent wacken gigs , as I was in the mood for some new power metal to get into , and what should i find but a video called "Demons are a girls best friend" , what a ripper title and after 3 minutes I was convinced it was a ripper song, so on the hunt (sorry) for some more Wolf howls and i found a veritable mountain of music videos and two full gigs, RockPalast 2018 and Masters of Rock 2015...to suggest i was beyond stoked is an understatement ...and as near as i can tell , I sort of think their a combo of Hammerfall and Nightwish with just a hint of Helloween, but im a crazy aussie , what do I know HAHAHAHA.........anyway to the stuff you already know

One of Germany's leading metal bands, Powerwolf combine high-speed guitar work and thundering drums with forceful vocals and dark fantasy themes. 
Powerwolf were formed in 2003 by guitarist Matthew Greywolf (born Benjamin Buss) and bassist Charles Greywolf (born David Vogt), two musicians who had been working together for years. Teaming with keyboard player Falk Maria Schlegel and drummer Stéfane Funèbre, the new group had trouble finding a lead singer who suited their vision until a holiday to Romania where Matthew and Charles met Attila Dorn (born Karsten Brill), who had a outstanding voice as well as a passion for tales of werewolves, vampires, and evil spirits, all very good power metal themes.

 The band adopted the name  Powerwolf, with Dorn's lyrics meshing with the group's music, and they scored a deal with Napalm Records, which released their debut album, Return in Bloodred, in 2005. Metal Blade Records signed Powerwolf to a North American deal, and their second album, Lupus Dei, a concept album devoted to werewolf lore, appeared in 2007. 

Released in 2009, Bible of the Beast proved to be Powerwolf's final album with Stéfane Funèbre, with new drummer Roel van Helden joining in 2010. 
Powerwolf's fourth album, Blood of the Saints, appeared in the summer of 2011, and a live album, Alive in the Night, was released in 2012.

 Powerwolf signed with Capitol/Universal for the North American release of 2013's Preachers of the Night, while Napalm Records continued to represent the band in Germany, where the album debuted on the sales charts at number one. 

when 2015 arrived , album number 6 was released and to say it was much-anticipated is a understatement , the boys called it Blessed and Possessed, and in 2016, Powerwolf issued their first DVD/Blu-Ray, the sprawling Metal Mass: Live....[which im definately going on the hunt for ]

2018 heralded the arrival of album number seven, The Sacrament of Sin, which featured the amazing tune "Demons Are a Girl's Best Friend" and the equally bonza "Fire & Forgive."

Now, there is just a smidge of religionistic verbiage in the lyrics,  so some smartarse asked one of the Greywolfs if he was a Christian or a Satanist, Greywolf looked at him and stated  "I am a metalist, a metal fan. Metal is my religion. Look at all these people, what unites them? I can tell you, it's the fucking metal.....GOOD ANSWER WOLFIE !

Brother Norm Presents : NITROVILLE In Concert (at his local friendly rock joint)

  

  Howdy soaps....err, i mean folks, Brother Norm here again, now this is a band I heard about a few years ago thanks to my habit of late night trawling on ReverbNation and wanted to share with you.

     Nitroville was founded by Anglo-Scottish vocalist, Tola Lamont and German-Scottish Guitarist, Kurt Michael. On the first song-writing session two songs were born – the southern rock grinder, “Cuts to the Bone” and the stomping “Got what it takes”. Both songs were later included on Nitroville’s debut album, “Can’t Stop What’s Comin’” which was released in 2011.the second album is called "CHEATING THE HANGMAN" and was released in 2016 on the Mighty Music label ( Marco Mendoza, Tygers Of PanTang ) to rave reviews. Nitroville are also currently working on their third album which is due to be released Worldwide via Target/Mighty Music (Scandinavia/USA), Bickee Music, (Japan) later this year.

With her mane of blonde hair and her film star looks Tola commands the stage from the opening guitar chords, style wise her vocals are a  cross between Vinegar Joe era Elkie Brooks, Mothers Finest singer Joyce "Baby Jean" Kennedy and Rossington Collins era Dale Krantz


Kurt Michael  - Guitars  & 
Grizzy Rose Lee - Guitars  


Striding the stage like a menacing KK Downing and Glenn Tipton these boys have the chops to match the attitude, coming across like latter day Mick Cocks and Peter Wells of Rose Tattoo,and Kurt`s plug in and play attitude (no pedal boards here) comes across in the very first power chord.

Mercurial bassist Paolo strides the stage whilst laying down a rock solid groove reminiscent of Glenn Hughes

Moyano El Buffalo - Drums

...What can be said about Moyano, other than WOW!!!

he obviously wears his influences on his sleeve, Keith Moon of The Who, Phil Taylor of Motorhead and first and foremost Animal from the Muppet show,this gut is a POWERHOUSE DRUMMER and a name to look out for in the future.


Right that`s the back story for you guys, onto the actual gig.

So, its a Sunday night in Newcastle,and after a 5am start for work (i`d been called in the night previous) i not so much cruise in to a bar on the shore as Aerosmith`s Mr Tyler might have put it, i more stumble tiredly into my local rock `n` roll watering hole,now as i`ve been trying to convince the band to come and play up here for sometime now, and now they`re here i`m not sure what to expect, i know its gonna be good though,  i walk into the venue and pay my door fee and head for the bar....after a 10 hour shift i think i deserve an ice cold Corona, but i digress.

After a quick chat to friends and bar staff i see there is movement on the stage, suddenly there is a quick guitar riff from Kurt and the band explode onto the stage with their opening number APOPHIS 2029 from their second album Cheating The Hangman and we`re off on a 10 song set that instantly grabs the crowd by the throat and doesn't let go until the end of the last song.....
and not a ballad in sight, that`s not to say they can`t do them, check out the YouTube video below for a stripped down version of

During the set, Tola is centrestage commanding her boys and making sure the crowd is having a good time,and enticing them to come to the front of the stage,three new songs feature including, PITLANE FIRE a balls out Nascar rocker that is bound to get you a speeding ticket when you play it in the car,and ZOMBIE GALORE another rocking tune that will sit comfortably alongside the rest of their catalogue,check out the videos below

        Towards the set finale, after checking how much time was left, Kurt says to the crowd "If someone buys me a beer i`ll buy you one back after the set", almost instantly a voice shouts up "What Kind?", to which a shocked Kurt replies "Any Lager", i`m not sure he realised just how generous us Geordies are,any-who, ten songs later, after the band had ripped through some old favourites like SPITFIRE, LOUISIANNA BONE and the future classics CHEATING THE HANGMAN and MOTOROCKER the crowd are suitably warmed up for Marco Mendoza......

Afterwards, as i was congratulating Tola on her and the bands Newcastle debut, a young girl came up to us and maybe she thought i had something to do with the band,but the conversation went like this....

                                Q: Your drummer`s brilliant, what`s he on??

                                Tola: Coffee, lot`s of coffee.

                                Me: Rock `n` roll and LOTS of coffee

                                                    (laughs)

Then came the punchline, the girl then says....

To the lead singer/front woman of the band


 "You should bring the drums to the front of the stage so everyone can see him"

, which i suppose is a compliment for Moyano, but in my opinion really rude to the singer of a band who've travelled the length of the country to entertain you for 45 minutes, but hey ho as Mr. Jagger once said "ITS ONLY ROCK N ROLL"

Firstly G'day , secondly , I was on you tube the other day looking at some Blackberry Smoke videos and on the side bar video suggestions wotsit  I found another band to add to the collection of bands that just rock.....I discovered quite the brilliant trio called Cadillac Three
Before  the boys got Cadillaced, all three members were in American Bang, which also featured Ben Brown as a fourth member; Mason and Brown had been in the band Llama before that.  

Between 2011 and 2013, Johnston co-wrote "You Gonna Fly" for Keith Urban, "Southern Girl" for Tim McGraw, and "Days of Gold" for Jake Owen (with Neil Mason).

the boys hace rather brilliantly combined outlaw country and classic Southern rock, born and bred out of Nashville, Tennessee. The Cadillac Three have their roots in the rock group American Bang, who were formed in 2005 by lead guitarist Ben Brown; drummer Neil Mason; singer, songwriter, and guitarist Jaren Johnston; and bassist Kelby Ray. 

Originally called Bang Bang Bang, the group released an album, I Shot the King, under that name in 2005, but switched to the name American Bang upon signing with Warner Bros. 

American Bang released an EP, Move to the Music, in 2007, and a self-titled full-length in 2010 with Reprise Records, but after the album didnt find an audience, Brown departed for a solo career. 

DANGED IF WE DIDNT

The remaining trio members changed their name to Cadillac Black, but once again discovered they'd chosen a name already in use; signing with Big Machine Records, they switched their handle to the Cadillac Three, and issued the self-titled full-length album The Cadillac Three in the spring of 2013. 

In addition to making a name for themselves as performers, the Cadillac Three have generated chart-friendly material for other acts 

THE SOUTH

Jaren Johnson co-wrote the songs "You're Gonna Fly" for Keith Urban, "Southern Girl" for Tim McGraw, and "Days of Gold" for Jake Owen. In February 2014, the Cadillac Three enjoyed some chart action with the single "The South," which featured guest appearances from Dierks Bentley, Eli Young, and Florida Georgia Line. 

PARTY LIKE YOU

Six months later, they dropped the single and video for the song "Party Like You," followed by the ballad "White Lightning" in April 2015. It took another year before Bury Me in My Boots, the band's third album, finally saw release in the summer of 2016. The trio returned in August 2017 with Legacy, an album that saw the group strip back to basics.
