THUNDER ROCKS, THUNDER ROLLS

I guess just about everyone has a favourite band that you just cant figure out how they didnt become arena filling super duper mega-stars....and here is mine...the mighty THUNDER...originally saw them in the U.K at Donnington Festival along with Poison, The Quireboys, Whitesnake and Aerosmith...then I got them on a Hard'n'Heavy dvd (that highlighted the same Donington ) then a few years went by and I was in the $10 c.d shop in Pitt St in Sydney and lo and behold I got a hold of a compilation cd titled Rock Champions :Thunder and thus my spark was re-ignited and I went on  a hunt for as much Thunder stuff as I could get my hands on....even got Deb into them BIGTIME....anyway to the tale of Thunder

the boys  originally formed in 1989 when the band Terraplane broke up, leaving lead singer Danny Bowes and guitarist/main songwriter Luke Morley to form a new group, namely Thunder. Retaining Terraplane drummer Gary James (popularly known as 'Harry' James), they completed the line-up with bassist Mark 'Snake' Luckhurst and guitarist/keyboard player Ben Matthews.....and apart from bass players being replaced twice, the line-up remained solid...they released a few albums up until there first "retirement" 5 years and two minutes later..my personal favourite release would probably be the  "Laughing on Judgement Day" album...as for my fave tune...WELL...have a listen to the comp and pick your own, it's too hard to just pick one...HAHAHA.....In 1998, the band released Live. The album was a concert recorded at Wolverhampton and Shepherd's Bush Empire in London. A DVD was released also featuring the video to the album...with an OUTSTANDING cover of Lazy Sunday afternoon, mid -gig, its worth picking up, just for that alone.

In 1999 they released their fifth studio album "Giving The Game Away"; toning the guitars down in favour of a mellower approach with more keyboards. This album was released to coincide with the band's tenth anniversary; however they announced in autumn 1999 that they were to split, much to the dismay of their fanbase, many of whom had followed them from the beginning. Following a UK tour in November 1999, and some dates in Japan in early 2000, they bowed out on 4 May 2000 with a show at Camden Dingwalls in London, which was recorded for the album They Think It's All Over... It Is Now.

Thunder were tempted back into action by a slot on the touring Monsters of Rock UK arena shows in late 2002. They returned in November 2003 with a new album called Shooting at the Sun released on their own label - STC Recordings.....Their second self-released album, The Magnificent Seventh spawned a top 30 single, "I Love You More Than Rock And Roll" in March 2005, reaching #27 in the UK Singles Chart....with an equally outstanding video....Their resurgence can be traced through the venues booked for their live tours. In 2006 Thunder returned, for the first time since the days of the EMI released Back Street Symphony album, to headline the Hammersmith Apollo at the end of a 12 date UK tour.

The band released their eighth studio album on 30 October 2006, entitled Robert Johnson's Tombstone. It follows Thunder's traditions of good honest blues rock albums, with big riffs and big sing-along choruses...The single "The Devil Made Me Do It" taken from this album reached #40 in the UK Singles Chart on the 10 December 2006, and the video, produced and animated by Andy Doran, also enjoyed significant success on its first week when uploaded to the YouTube site, and has received airplay on Scuzz TV.

Thunder undertook a European Tour in early 2007, their first in nearly 12 years, playing small venues in Spain, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Italy. A further UK tour took place in November and December 2007. In February 2008 it was announced Thunder would be the opening act on the second leg of Def Leppard and Whitesnake's co-headline UK arena tour. The second leg in July 2008 opened in Cardiff International Arena before heading to Liverpool Arena and Nottingham Arena.

Thunder released their ninth studio album 'Bang!' in the UK on November 3, 2008 through their own STC label and in mainland Europe via Frontiers Records on 7 November 2008.[4] While writing the album they released three limited edition EPs, Six Of One,...Half A Dozen Of The Other and The Joy Of Six.

Thunder announced a decision to split ("hitch up our wagons and ride into the sunset") on 28 January 2009 via their website. The band cited outside interests as the reasons for the split with members of the band playing in other bands when not touring with Thunder. Danny Bowes mentioned the stresses of managing a website for the band, along with management and vocal duties taking their toll, added to the decision to split
The final full gig was played at the Hammersmith Apollo on July 11,and I got the dvd of that show...ROCKIN GIG INDEED... however the band made an appearance at the Rock of Ages festival in Germany on July the 31st. Their actual, very final, last time, ever appearance took place at the Sonisphere Festival, Knebworth where thanks to another band pulling out they were able to arrange a place on the bill at late notice. On Saturday the 1st of August 2009 at around 11pm Thunder took to the stage in a packed Bohemia tent and played a short final set.

MOTLEY WHO??...MOTLEY CRUE thats who

Once again, gonna step away from Aussie rock for a bit and tell ya about probably my fave band to come out of L.A...MOTLEY fkn CRUE

Mötley Crüe has been described through the years as the World's Most Notorious Rock Band

Mötley Crüe is one of my all time favouritte bands...I would go as far to say that I rate Nikki Sixx right up there with Jon Bon Jovi as my fave American muso since the 80's, I've had the pleasure to see them in person twice, once in L.A in '85 and once on the Dr Feelgood Tour at the Sydney Ent Cent...my fave albums are Theatre of Pain, Dr Feelgood, Shout at the Devil, Girls Girls Girls and their debut...favourite song of the Crue would be ...ummm...

off New Tattoo called "Punched in the teeth by love"...mind you, I could easily list 40 others, but I wont..check out the link....

the band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1981. ithe band founded by bass guitarist Nikki Sixx and drummer Tommy Lee, who were later joined by lead guitarist Mick Mars and lead singer Vince Neil....Nikki wanted to call the band Chrstmas...thank the metal gods that Mick was in the room and suggested Motley Crue..HUH?

The band members have often been on the news due to their rock'n'roll lifestyles. All the members have either had numerous brushes with the law, spent time in prison, suffered from alcoholism, long addictions to drugs such as cocaine and heroin, had countless escapades with women and are heavily tattooed....

HELL, Nikki and Ozzy had a ant snorting contest at a hotel in Texas, they performed other dares on the day, you can look them up form yourself, suffice it to say snorting ants was the only mentionable one that can be stated in polite company....

On December 23, 1987, Sixx suffered a near-fatal heroin overdose. He was declared legally dead on the way to the hospital, but the medic, revived Sixx by giving him two shots of adrenaline to the heart, bringing him back to life

His two minutes in death were the inspiration for the song "Kickstart My Heart", which peaked at #16 on the Mainstream U.S. chart, and which was featured on the 1989 album Dr. Feelgood.

Vince Neil left the band in February 1992, at a time when other bands in the 1980s glam metal scene (Ratt, Stryper, White Lion, Winger, Europe & Britny Fox) also broke up because of the rise in popularity of fuckin grunge. A controversy exists to this day over whether Neil was fired or quit. Sixx has long maintained that Neil quit the band.

However, Neil disputes this and insists that he was fired. Neil was replaced by John Corabi (formerly of Angora and The Scream)...the stuff I've heard from Corabi when he was in the band, wasnt bad at all...the problem was, it just wasnt Vince...Mötley Crüe's commercial success waned throughout the 1990s, although their self-titled March 1994 release made the Billboard top ten

The band reunited with Vince Neil in 1997, after their current manager, Allen Kovac, and Neil's manager, Bert Stein, set up a meeting between Neil, Lee, and Sixx. Agreeing to "leave their egos at the door," the band released Generation Swine. Although it debuted at #4, and in spite of a live performance at the American Music Awards, the album was said to be a commercial failure, due in part to the band's label's lack of support, the band soon left Elektra and created their own label, Mötley Records, thus putting the band in total control of their future.

This included the ownership of the masters of all of their albums. In announcing the end of their relationship with Elektra Records, the band became one of the few lucky groups in history to own and control their publishing and catalogue of recorded masters. In 1999, the band re-released all their albums, dubbed as Crücial Crüe. The limited-edition digital re-masters included demos, live, instrumental, and previously unreleased tracks....I went and got Dr Feelgood, Thetre of Pain and Shout atthe Devil myself....In 1999, Tommy put his role in the band on hold to pursue a solo career due to increasing tension with frontman Neil. He was replaced by Randy Castillo, who drummed on several Ozzy Osbourne albums, sadly Randy died of cancer on March 26, 2002.

No replacement had been named, which sent the band into a hiatus following a 2000 tour in support of their studio release, New Tattoo, which I think is a hell of an album,...

BUT..the american Motley buying public only helped it get New Tattoo to chart at #41, the album sold fewer than 200,000 copies. Former Hole drummer Samantha Maloney filled in on the tour to promote the album. The Salt Lake City performance of the tour is featured on the DVD Lewd, Crüed & Tattooed...which I own and is pretty damn good, that girl can bash them skins alrighty...BUT...once again a replacement proved to be less in the eyes of the fans, who wanted Tommy back on the drum kit......
Within the following six years, Nikki played in the bands, 58 and Brides of Destruction, while Tommy formed Methods of Mayhem and performed as a solo artist. Neil continued touring on an annual basis as a solo artist, singing mostly Mötley Crüe songs......Mick on the other hand suffers from a rare hereditary form of arthritis called ankylosing spondylitis, which means in layman's terms ,he cant move his neck at all....so Mars went quiet for a while

In 2001 the band autobiography entitled The Dirt was released it presented the band as "the world's most notorious rock band". The book made the top ten on The New York Times Best Seller list and spent ten weeks there....I'm on my second copy..EXCELLENT FKN READ..go get it

In 2005, Mötley Crüe was involved in an animation-comedy spoof Disaster! which was written by Paul Benson and Matt Sullivan and which was used as the introduction film to concerts on their Carnival of Sins tour, and is on the concert dvd of the tour

In 2006, Mötley Crüe went on the Route of All Evil Tour, co-headlining with Aerosmith and taking performers from Lucent Dossier Experience on the road with them. This was another well attended tour following the Carnival of Sins tour of 2005....The Crue have been going out on "package "tours as of late, for instance....Mötley Crüe co-headlined a summer tour with Poison and special guests New York Dolls in 2011 for Mötley Crüe's 30th Anniversary and Poison's 25th anniversary and in 2011, Mötley Crüe, along with co-headliners Def Leppard and special guests Steel Panther did a UK tour

Asked in a November 2011 interview with Examiner.com if Mötley Crüe will be making another album in 2012 or plan another Crüefest tour, Vince Neil replied, "We're looking at another Crüefest. This tour doesn't end until November of next year." Tommy Lee commented on recording a new album, stating: "I'm sure we're due for one. All of us have been writing individually, I write, Nikki's been writing, and Mick as well, at some point here, we'll pull all of our ideas together as we always do, and then we'll start sorting through it at that point. But we haven't gotten to that point yet. I would imagine we'll probably get there some time in the next year and start working on that."

The band announced a three-week residency in Las Vegas, with bassist Nikki Sixx stating, "This is the beginning of what will be the biggest probably four to five years of the band's career. We're negotiating with a couple of other extremely huge bands on doing a co-headline tour, something that's never happened before. There's new music in the future." Sixx also noted that the band may break-up in the near future: "The band sat down and had a pow-wow as brothers and friends and guys who've been doing this for over thirty years, and we said, 'When is it time?' We've always said since we were kids we didn't want to hobble in to the sunset. So after the movie, at some point – whether it's within a year or a few years – we're probably gonna have that conversation about maybe it's time, maybe it's time to go out on top.  I always respected Led Zeppelin, and I'd rather Motley Crue be thought of as that type of band rather than a band that's just going through the motions. We're a hundred percent engaged. We're sounding better than we've ever sounded musically. We're really proud of what we've done, whether critics like us or not, whether we've won Grammys or not, whether any of that stuff. We're proud that we did it on our own terms."
Motley Crue announced a tour with Kiss in March 2012. The tour kicks off July 20 in Bristow, Virginia and runs through September 23.

It was also announced that the band was recording a new song for release, which was later revealed to be titled "Sex".
Mötley Crüe has been featured on a number of VH1 countdown shows, "Dr. Feelgood" was ranked the #7 Greatest Air Guitar Song, "Live Wire" was ranked the #17 Greatest Metal Song Of All Time, and "Home Sweet Home" was ranked the #12 Greatest Power Ballad Of All Time.[27] Mötley Crüe was featured several times on VH1's 100 Most Metal Moments, the highest spot being #3. VH1 included the Tommy Lee sex tapes, The Dirt, and Ozzy Osbourne's and Nikki Sixx's pee licking incident.

Mötley Crüe was ranked tenth on MTV's list "Top 10 Heavy Metal Bands of All-Time" and ninth on "VH1's All Time Top Ten Metal Bands"...

Mötley Crüe has influenced many bands and artists of all the world such as Steel Panther, Buckcherry, Wednesday 13, Poison, Skid Row, Bang Tango, Backyard Babies, L.A. Guns, Faster Pussycat and Black Veil Brides among others.

SO..thats my take on the Crue...Hope ya dig it...
